We all go through battles between our mind and our hearts. What is right and what is wrong. What we should do and what we shouldn’t. You all think that I am very strong and inspiring, and I greatly appreciate that. But lately, I’ve been going through my own mental battle. But not the kind that you think….

I have always kept things honest with you all, I’ve shared the good, the  bad and the ugly side of running. Here is the dark side of my journey…If you have been following me on social media, you’ve noticed something had been up. I haven’t really talked about it because the way it made me feel, but I much more powerful that it, even if it’s trying to kill me, it won’t. Last month I had a tiny, minuscule of a stroke. I haven’t been the same since then. My balance is off, weakness, numbness, a whole bunch of crap. Then a few weeks ago I suffered my first seizure. Man was that scary!

I am going through a lot of brain disease issues and my brain, along with my spine is something I don’t really want to mess with so I am taking it easy. Lucky by some perfect alignment of the universe, our rescue 4 legged friend turned out to be a seizure, migraine alert dog. So we have been training her to help me and she has actually not missed an alert yet.

But I wanted to share with you a little moment I had…my little and I were having a pretty deep conversation and out of nowhere with tears in his eyes he says to me, “You shouldn’t let your tiny stroke, your seizures, or anything else stop you from running. You can’t let that stop you mami, just like you tell me all the time, I’m telling you now, don’t give up. I know your head and your back always hurts but I can help you.”

He then runs off and comes back with my ASICS in his hands and says “Here. Start stretching, I’ll go get your socks.” When he came back, I had to explain to him in a bit more detailed manner that it isn’t that simple, but that I will run again soon but I just need more time. And then he tugged at the heart-strings one last time, “I know you will, I’m always cheering for you. I’ve never stopped believing in you.”

Just remember that life is never promised, and situations are never ideal. Make the best of what you have and look for the positive and keep moving forward. Life is already tough, so why make it tougher on yourself? We all face battles and get knocked down, but whether we get back up is all up to us. You must stay strong and fight every situation with a positive strong mind.
