As of April 1, I am officially in NYC Marathon mode. I create my own training schedule that fits to my abilities. So far it has been 3 to 4 miles every other day. I am starting off slow and easy. I make my schedules knowing where my weaknesses are and what I need to work on. I do have some speed intervals scheduled later on in training.

I didn’t run during my second week of training due to an odd stomach bug/virus/pain whatever it was. So I missed 2 runs of that week before. I had spent pretty much all week in bed as I was struggling with the pains where I could barely move. But when I get sick, I am not one to really stay in bed and being that my birthday was days away, I made a HUGE effort to go out and do what Alpha had planned for me and boy did he make me feel special!

I have been doing most of my 3 milers on the treadmill due to safety since I am not at my best right now but I did manage to sneak in a few runs on the trails. The heat has really been kicking it into high gear lately so it makes for running on the trail a little difficult. I usually run when the sun sets but haven’t had the chance.

Last week I ran a hard 4 miles on the treadmill. Lots of stuff on my mind and felt sluggish and tired. I don’t know what it was….I know many of you have had days like this. I did my usual routine, drank my cup of CogniTea to get me energized in the morning and my usual running day snacks, quest bar, bagel, fruits, those kind of goodies. Then when I jumped on the treadmill, it felt like I had been running for hours when it was only 20 minutes. Regardless I completed my 4 miles and was spent.

The next day, I felt like I NEEDED to get a run in. I felt off and had the strong urge to run. Has that happened to you? I felt anxious, energized, and ready. So in true runner fashion, I went for a run. Ended up doing 6 miles on the treadmill. I wasn’t scheduled to run but I ran until that anxiety was gone. Problem was, I totally aggravated my lower back.

The problem with an irritated SI Joint…its the cause of pain in your sciatica, ITBS, hamstrings, knees, and obviously the lower back. Once I jumped off that treadmill Alpha came and immediately worked on me. I couldn’t stand up straight. I was walking hunched over..

Alpha also taped me up with an edema app for the upper back since whenever my back muscles swell it puts too much pressure on my rotated ribs. The rotated ribs then press up against my lungs making it difficult to breathe. He also placed two strips of KT Tape along my SI Joint to reduce the pain. By having the tape on, it makes blood flow better and reaches my muscles quicker to repair and reduce swelling.

Once I had it one, I gave myself a day, and I was able to stand upright with minimal discomfort. I was due for an easy 4 miler and decided I should run it outside on the trails. I was glad that I was still able to hold my usual pace and finished around my usual time. Breathing was a bit difficult but not enough to make me stop. My lower back pain was never felt. It was H-O-T and super muggy being that as soon as I stopped and was stretching a big storm came by.

Overall my training is going well. I am excited as I head towards longer distances and bigger challenges. I am looking at life a little differently, appreciating it more than before(if thats possible) being stronger and ignoring the little balls of negativity that life throws my way. I believe that the pain I deal with has changed me. I am grateful for those who stick by me, support me, and are strong enough to deal with me on tough days. The people who have been there from day one, have patience and understanding and will never leave my side.

I will continue to keep you all posted on what I do through out my training. For fuel and a speedy recovery, I am been relying on Vega Sport line to help me continue. I use it before a run, during a run and after. If you haven’t tried it, give it a try. I rarely feel sore, and my muscles always feel ready to go. I’ve been using Vega since my first marathon, used it during The Goofy Challenge and it has given me great results.

I am ready and aware of the challenges ahead. I feel that I have trained my mind well enough to make it. My mind is stronger than my body. I will get my body to catch up with my mind. It will not be easy but I will get there. I will succeed because my motivation to reach the top is bigger than any obstacles before me.
